Directions: From the Richmond area: Take I-64 West to exit 121 onto VA-20 toward Charlottesville/Scottsville turn left onto VA-20 South then turn left onto VA-53 East/Thomas Jefferson Pkwy take the 1st right onto Carters Mountain Trail Destination will be on the right at the top of the Mountain. 

From the Valley: Take I-64 East to exit 121A to merge onto VA-20 South turn left onto VA-53 East/ Thomas Jefferson Pkwy take the 1st right onto Carters Mountain Trail Destination will be on the right at the top of the Mountain.

Prince Michel Winery is thrilled to support local nonprofit organizations through our "Charity of the Month" program. Tasting fees collected through out the season support these worthy causes.

June- Wildlife Center of Virginia ( supports & cares for injured wildlife. www.wildlifecenter.org )

July- March of Dimes ( supports March of Dimes causes at our local hospitals )

August- Charlottesville Free Clinic ( provides health care for uninsured and disadvantaged locally www.cvillefreeclinic.org )

September- Women’s 4 Miler Race and Training Program (Supports Breast Care research & treatment locally)

October- UVA “Patients & Friends” ( supports cancer research for UVA Hospital )

November- UVA Hospital Auxiliary ( supports many worthy hospital causes that need funding )

Carter Mountain has always been synonymous with pick your own peaches and apples and is absolutely the place to go if you want the best views in Charlottesville.  Now, add yet another reason for making it up the breathtaking 1,150 feet to the peak  -  the Carter Mountain Wine Shop.  This new venture opened in the fall of 2008 and has been enthusiastically embraced by customers both old and new.

Carter Mountain plays a role in Virginia's nationally-acclaimed wine scene thanks to Carter Mountain Vineyard. Since it's planting in the spring of 1998, the vineyard has produced a variety of grapes including Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, to name a few.  You’ve seen the vines as you’ve driven up the mountain, and you’ve been asking for Carter Mountain wines for a long time.  We’re proud to now say “come and get them!”

Madison County’s Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery  www.princemichel.com has held a dominant presence in Virginia for over 27 years.   Prince Michel has been using Carter Mountain grapes to create their award-winning wines for years.  Just recently, however, the venture to open a tasting room at the very site of the vineyard became a successful reality.

Nestled along side the Carter Mountain Bakery and Country Store, the Carter Mountain Wine Shop boasts wine tastings of Prince Michel’s wines—some of which are exclusively made from Carter Mountain grapes.  Both Carter Mountain and Prince Michel are thrilled with this opportunity to bring more tastes of the mountains to our customers.
